How to Make Classic Turkish Desserts at Home

Baklava
Baklava is perhaps the most famous Turkish dessert, consisting of layers of phyllo dough filled with nuts and sweetened with syrup.
Ingredients:
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 2 cups of finely chopped nuts (walnuts, pistachios, or almonds)
- 1 cup of melted butter
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each layer with butter.
- Spread a layer of chopped nuts mixed with cinnamon (if using) over the dough.
- Continue layering phyllo and nuts, ending with at least 8 layers of phyllo on top.
- Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake for 50 minutes until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, combine sugar, water, and vanilla in a saucepan and bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes.

- In another bowl, mix cornstarch with 1 cup of water. Gradually add this to the saucepan, stirring continuously.
- Cook on medium heat until the mixture thickens and becomes translucent, stirring frequently.
- Once thick, add rosewater and mix well.
- Pour the mixture into a greased square pan, smoothing the top, and let it cool for several hours at room temperature.
- Once set, cut into small cubes and dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
Sutlac (Rice Pudding)

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of short-grain rice
- 4 cups of milk
