How to Make Turkish Salads for a Summer Picnic

1. Çoban Salatası (Shepherd's Salad)

Çoban Salatası is a refreshing salad that combines tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, making it a perfect complement to grilled meats or as a standalone dish.

  • Ingredients:
  • 2 large tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, cucumbers, green bell pepper, red onion, and parsley.
  2. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, then season with salt and pepper.
  3. Toss gently to combine and serve chilled.

2. Fattoush Salad

  2. Add the toasted pita pieces, mint, and parsley.

  4. Toss gently and serve immediately.

3. Muhallebi Kısırı (Bulgar Wheat Salad)

This salad uses bulgur wheat as its base, mixed with fresh herbs and vegetables, offering a unique Turkish twist that is filling and nutritious.

  • Ingredients:
  • 1 cup fine bulgur wheat
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • Fresh parsley and mint, chopped

Instructions:
