How to Make Turkish Soup with Chicken and Vegetables

Turkish soup with chicken and vegetables is a comforting and nutritious dish that is popular in households across Turkey. This flavorful soup is not only easy to make but also packed with healthy ingredients. Follow this simple recipe to create a delicious bowl of Turkish chicken and vegetable soup at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 3-4 pounds), cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 medium-sized onions, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 stalks of celery, chopped
  • 1 large potato, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 6 cups of chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until they become translucent. Then, add the chicken pieces to the pot. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until the chicken is lightly browned.

Step 2: Add Vegetables

Once the chicken is browned, add the chopped carrots, celery, potato, and red bell pepper to the pot. Stir well to combine the ingredients. Next, sprinkle the paprika over the mixture and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3: Simmer the Soup

Pour in the chicken broth or water, ensuring the chicken and vegetables are fully submerged. Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.

Step 4: Shred the Chicken

Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the pot. Let it cool for a few minutes, then shred the meat using two forks, discarding the bones and skin. Return the shredded chicken to the soup pot.

Step 5: Final Touches

Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning if necessary. If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can use an immersion blender to blend a portion of the soup, then return it to the pot. Simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

Serve the Turkish chicken and vegetable soup hot, garnished with freshly chopped parsley. This soup pairs wonderfully with crusty bread or a side of lemon wedges for a zesty touch.

Whether enjoyed as a hearty lunch or a soothing dinner, this Turkish chicken and vegetable soup is sure to be a favorite in your home. The combination of tender chicken, fresh vegetables, and aromatic spices creates a delightful meal that warms the heart.

Enjoy making this wholesome dish and sharing it with family and friends!
