Ingredients:

  • For the Fish Marinade:
    • 500g white fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia)
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tsp paprika
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Tacos:
    • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
    • 1 cup red cabbage, shredded
    • 1 avocado, sliced
    • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
    • Fresh cilantro, chopped
    • Lemon or lime wedges for serving
  • For the Yogurt Sauce:
    • 1 cup Greek yogurt
    • 1 tbsp tahini
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Step 1: Marinate the Fish

In a bowl, mix together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Add the fish fillets to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 2: Prepare the Yogurt Sauce

While the fish is marinating, combine Greek yogurt, tahini, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Mix well until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning according to your taste and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Fish

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium heat. Remove the fish from the marinade and grill or cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until the fish is cooked through and flaky. Be mindful not to overcook it, as this can make the fish dry.

Step 4: Warm the Tortillas

While the fish is cooking, warm the tortillas in a dry skillet for about 30 seconds on each side until soft and pliable. Keep them warm by wrapping them in a clean kitchen towel.

Step 5: Assemble the Tacos

Once the fish is ready, remove it from the heat and let it rest for a minute. Flake the fish into bite-sized pieces. To assemble the tacos, place a portion of the fish on each tortilla, followed by shredded red cabbage, avocado slices, and cherry tomatoes. Drizzle with the yogurt sauce and sprinkle fresh cilantro on top.

Step 6: Serve

Serve your Turkish fish tacos immediately with lemon or lime wedges on the side for an extra zing. Enjoy this fusion dish that brings together the best of Turkish and Mexican cuisines!

By following this simple recipe, you can easily create delicious Turkish fish tacos at home. They make for a perfect meal for gatherings, parties, or a fun weeknight dinner. Don’t hesitate to customize the toppings according to your taste, making this dish even more personal and flavorful.
